Background
Barndiva Wine Company’s roots trace back to 2004 when we opened our home restaurant 40 miles from our Farm in Philo, Mendocino. Healdsburg, the location we choose, sits on the Russian River at the apex of where Alexander Valley, Dry Creek Valley, and Russian River Valley converge, three of the most extraordinary wine appellations in the country, arguably in the world. As one of the first farm to table restaurants in town we quickly became a hub for a diverse group of vinters, vineyard owners and winemakers who came together for long wine lunches, evening dinners and gatherings. In getting to know them well we came to understand something remarkable was happening. Whereas Napa Valley had always been corporate lead, primarily focused on one varietal, the winemakers from Sonoma and Mendocino who came to dine with us and often spent hours talking craft with other winemakers were obsessed: with knowing all they could about soil and the history of their terroir, with extending varietals, and - with singular focus- mastering every aspect of winemaking. Anti-trend, respectful of tradition but unafraid of innovation, these young men and women were producing wines that set new goalposts for recognition.
Sixteen years on we are honored to call these people our community, humbled to consider many of them friends. In building our award winning wine lists we understand what people really love to drink when they dine. As a premier event destination, we also know what people hope to drink when they celebrate. Our access to the two remarkable food and wine sheds surrounding the restaurant here in Healdsburg and our farm in Philo is the impetus for Barndiva Wine Company.
The Barndiva label, and those we carry in our portfolio, represent all we have learned from our relationships here; our mission is to offer wines from Sonoma and Mendocino that are true reflections of varietal, wines that draw deep from Northern California’s ancient geologic formations and diverse micro climates, beautiful terroirs that benefit from our hot days and ocean cooled evenings.
